Advertising veteran Aurobindo Mohanty passed away. Mohanty had worked with HTA, Clarion, Karishma (Lintas Group) and with Mudra Group across cities such as Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Mumbai. His longest stint was in Ahmedabad where he worked on the Rasna brand for several years. Mohanty also brands like Sify, Fa, Herculus Cycles, Henkel. In his last stint, he was with Reliance Retail.
“I knew Aurobindo during my stint at Karishma while he was heading the Hyderabad branch and I was in Mumbai. While he handled Rasna from Mudra for a long time but later on he changed sides and moved to the client side and headed the Rasna advertising and marketing. He continued to be in the client side as he moved to Reliance retail later on. Post his corporate life he moved Bhubaneshwar where he was consultant to a few clients. A gentleman to the core he was always jovial and a pleasant personality to interact. His amazing sense of humour will always be remembered,” said Ganapathy Viswanathan, an independent communication consultant and content specialist.
“Heard the shocking news of Mohanty Saab’s sudden exit from this planet. I am still processing the loss. Advertising introduces you to many wonderful people. Aurobindo Mohanty was a true gem that many at Mudra had the pleasure of working with. He was our branch manager in Chennai. And what a jolly good fellow he was. I never saw him play the boss card ever. He wore his designation so lightly that all of us saw him as our genial friend. He let the branch blossom by pollinating a culture of freedom and fun. Not a man of jargon, Mohanty Saab had a very human approach to advertising. He cut through the bullshit and just looked for the simplicity and beauty of the idea. He was a rockstar at after-work office parties. I remember him for his scintillating wit. Humour came so naturally to him,” Anantha Narayan, an advertising professional based in Chennai. “He was my Encourager-in-Chief always cheering for whatever I did. I am sure he did that to everyone. We’ve lost a lot of good people this year. The nicest one, left last night. Mohanty saab, you lit up our lives. Thanks for everything.”
