Mumbai: adidas Originals announces the latest drop of the brand’s iconic and influential silhouette – the Samba. A shoe specifically dedicated to those who ignore hype and fads in favour of timeless design, Samba’s iconic suede T-toe detailing and classic gum sole transcends its terrace origins to become a modern street-wear staple.
Engineered by Adi Dassler in the 1950s as a high-tech performance shoe, Samba quickly became a mainstay of terrace culture. Throughout the oncoming decades, whilst tastes and trends changed, Samba stayed true to its origins. Its statement black and white colours and practical design became a favourite with creators around the world that shared the shoe’s uncompromising attitude. Today, Samba’s enduring silhouette has become a trademark for those that seek to avoid the hype, making their statement through subtlety, and not selfies.
Fronted by India Brand Ambassador Ranveer Singh, the SAMBA campaign is shot by celebrity & fashion photographer Rid Burman. Staying true to Samba’s statement monochrome personality, the campaign is shot against urban textures, using bold monochromatic backdrops to give contrast to both the footwear and the protagonist. In the campaign visuals, Ranveer Singh has been shot facing slightly away from camera to capture the anti-hype personality of the Samba, whilst styling him in both terrace and street fashion looks to showcase how the sneaker can be worn in multiple ways.
This is for the first time that an Indian Brand Ambassador has been shot as the face of one of adidas Originals’ most significant campaigns. Samba is a timeless silhouette that draws its inspiration from football. Ranveer Singh, who is unarguably the country’s top street-style icon, is most definitely an ideal fit as the protagonist of this campaign, for both his bold fashion statements as well as his strong connect with the beautiful game of football. Rightly timed with the kick-start of the biggest football extravaganza, the campaign is another addition to adidas Originals’ growing commitment in targeting India as one of the key target markets.
With a design that remains true to its terrace roots, Samba’s statement black and white colours and timeless silhouette have become synonymous with the defiant attitude of those that wear it. The latest Samba drop introduces the iconic silhouette in black and white colorways for men and starts at INR 7,999. The new editions are available across leading adidas Originals retail stores and on shop.adidas.co.in.
