Mumbai: The Indian advertising industry is in mourning following the sudden and untimely demise of Gautam Pandit, a highly respected creative professional and long-time Executive Creative Director at R K SWAMY Limited (formerly R K Swamy Private Limited). Gautam, in his mid-50s, tragically passed away today after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Having spent over 22 years at R K SWAMY, Gautam was a cornerstone of the agency’s creative leadership. He worked closely with Srinivasan Swamy and was deeply valued by the entire Swamy family and team. His contributions played a vital role in building and nurturing some of the agency’s most iconic campaigns, most notably for Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) — a client he loyally served for years, with poignant irony considering his sudden passing.
Gautam’s career began with HTA (now Wunderman Thompson India under WPP) at the legendary Laxmi Building, where he first carved his name in the world of Indian advertising. Known for his cheerful demeanor, collaborative spirit, and commitment to excellence, he was not just a leader but a mentor and friend to many.
His passing away has also reignited urgent conversations around the pressures and lifestyle endemic to the advertising and marketing industry.
On his LinkedIn handle, Dr. Kushal Sanghvi, CRO, iCubesWire, shared “Our advertising industry loses yet another absolutely amazing gem… Gautam P. or shall I say Gautam Pandit for many who’ve known him as the Executive Creative Director of one of our country’s earliest advertising and marketing firms R K SWAMY Limited (Formerly R K Swamy Private Limited) was with the agency for over 22 years and been a great asset to Srinivasan Swamy and the family
In his mid 50’s only, sadly he too breathe his last today while he suffered a cardiac arrest
Ironic as it may sound, for the most number of years he’s worked on the Life Insurance Corporation of India – LIC
These just continue to be some really thoughtful times for all of us while we continue to lose these lives of friends, peers, people that we’ve known and seen their work too
It’s just that there’s something clearly not going right in the way we’re working in this marketing and advertising field, pressures, deadlines, targets, deliveries, lifestyle habits and more and it’s clearly just getting more rampant than ever before
And it’s happening across departments be it creative, tech, business planning, digital and it’s really worth the thought
Gautam was a cheerful, always ready to help leader having worked with WPP ‘s HTA earlier as it was called in the very famous Laxmi Building and many of his peers there would remember him well too. Massive loss to R K Swamy where he spent most of his career alongside Shekar Swamy Meghna Godkhindi .”
Gautam’s passing is a massive loss to R K SWAMY, where he dedicated the bulk of his professional life, working alongside Shekar Swamy and Meghna Godkhindi, and shaping some of the most creative minds in the business.
He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, mentorship, and a body of work that will be remembered for years to come.
The advertising world bows its head in respect and gratitude to a life well-lived — and a soul gone too soon.
