Chief Justice N V Ramana said that he was actively considering the proposal to live telecast the Supreme Court proceedings.
“Before initiating concrete steps in this regard, he would seek consensus among his colleagues in the top court,” he said.
Ramana, who worked as a journalist for the Telugu language newspaper Eenadu said that the media faces great challenges in reporting, and journalists are dependent on advocates to get links to cover court proceedings.
Thus there was a request to create a mechanism so that the press could attend the hearings, he added.
The CJI was speaking at the launch of the application for granting access to virtual proceedings of the Supreme Court to media persons.
