Bhaskar Das is no longer with us, and while much will be written about his extraordinary career and immeasurable contributions to the advertising and media world, for me, this loss is deeply personal.
I had the privilege of knowing Bhaskar for nearly three decades—first as a colleague, later as a client, and most importantly, as a friend. Throughout these years, Bhaskar became someone I could rely on not just for his professional expertise, but for his humor, wisdom, and authenticity. He had a way of making everyone feel at ease. Whether it was through his sharp wit or his remarkable ability to laugh at himself, he always lightened the mood in any room.
Bhaskar was truly one of a kind. He may have been a corporate leader with a powerful influence on the media industry, but he had a personality that transcended the typical corporate image. With his colorful hair, bold pants, and stylish glasses, Bhaskar was never afraid to stand out. And his famous philosophy of being “media neutral” was revolutionary and ahead of its time—just like him.
A few days ago, I had the chance to say my goodbyes to him in the most emotional way possible. Though we weren’t allowed to meet in person, I called his wife, Somshukla, to convey a message. She kindly put me on speakerphone, and for those two minutes, it was the most heartfelt and emotional farewell I’ve ever experienced. I will forever cherish that moment.
As I reflect on Bhaskar’s life, I am reminded of the many memories we shared—both professional and personal. His impact on the industry and the countless lives he touched will remain unmatched. His legacy is one of boundless creativity, leadership, and humanity.
My heartfelt condolences go out to his family. Rest in peace, Bhaskar Da. You brought joy and charm to everyone around you—may you continue to spread that light in heaven. You will always be loved, my friend.
