Trivandrum : Kannadi (Mirror), the programme synonymous with Malayalam television is back on screen in Asianet News after a brief recess, with its powerful visual reports and the renowned visual journalist-cum-commentator, T.N. Gopakumar, as anchor.
Asianet News brings back Kannadi on every Sunday @ 10pm. Kannadi has been the pioneer in Malayalam television to present analytical and critically commentative visual reports, which comprised politics to social issues, giving rise to meaningful debates in the public sphere.
This is also the only TV show that can rightly claim to have a history as old as independent television in Kerala. Presented and scripted by Asianet News, Editor in Chief, T.N. Gopakumar, this show is only a few months behind its 1000th episode. Human rights, gender issues and environmental issues in Kerala had found their entry into the mainstream discourse through this pioneering TV show.
Apart from current affairs, Kannadi has brought into public attention, the plight of those who were pushed to the margins of the society, the under privileged and the poor. Their fight for rights, justice and equality has been a central theme of this news-based weekly television programme.
These reports evoked unprecedented public response in the last twenty years from the television viewers of Kerala and culminated in the formation of Asianet Viewers Fund, which facilitated charity responses to the aggrieved heroes and heroines of Kannadi reports as well as news reports telecast by Asianet News.
Kannadi episodes will be re-telecast by Asianet News on every Monday @ 12.30 pm and every Tuesday @ 3.30 pm.
