Chennai : In an efforts to iron out the brewing differences with the Cable TV Operators in Tamil Nadu, Arasu Cable had finally conducted a meeting with the office bearers of TCOA the trade body which represents the Cable TV Operators in Tamil Nadu on 28th July in which both the parties had a detailed discussion on the prevailing issues.
However, the meeting failed to stop the TCOA from conducting Demonstrations in front of the District collector’s offices all over Tamil Nadu to seek the attention of the Govt to address their grievances.
Earlier, TCOA headed by its newly elected President Mr. Arumugam met the Arusu Cable’s MD in presence of GM and Chairman and submitted various demands like revising the minimum tariff from Rs 70 to Rs 150 per Cable Home, Proper Notification before Disconnecting Signals due to Non-Payment issues, Restraining from declaring the Subscribers of the LCO as that of Arasu Cables’s subscriber base, Signing Agreement with Operators as per TRAI’s rules, Arbitrarily increasing the Subscriber base in illogical manner, Assurance of not creating competitors against existing LCOs etc…
During the meeting the representatives of Arasu Cable TV had assured TCOA that the matter of increasing the Tariff from Rs 70 to Rs 100 will be considered after consultation with the Government and also assured them of sorting our other issues by mutual discussions in due course.
Even-though, TCOA considered this as a positive gesture they decided to go ahead with their protest and demonstrations as planned earlier in-order to seek the attention of Tamil Nadu CM and requesting her intervene and protect their industry from awaiting disasters like, threat from DTH, Eroding Subscriber base, Inability to improve the quality of service due to poor revenue etc…
They also wanted the State Government to create a separate statutory Board for the development of Cable TV Industry and allocate welfare measures for their members.
It will be interesting to see how the Government and Arasu cable is going to react to the on-going demonstrations which was organised defecting the request of Arasu Cable.
