Mumbai : Sony TV is betting big on the Brand ‘Big B’ to turn around the fortune of the Channel which is starving for a successful program despite numerous attempts. At last their strategy to position Big B in both Fiction and Non Fiction front has created huge expectations in the market.
It will be interesting to see how ‘Yudh’ will be performing and what kind of support it is going to give Sony TV in their turn-around efforts.
Market Sources state that “Yudh” is just a 20 episode series of one hour content and it will come to an end, by the time the channel realises its opening trend of ratings and hardly there will be any scope for implementation of changes in case of a glitch.
It is a regular practice of GECs getting in to Creative changes based on the performance of the particular soap. However, such kind of bypassing is possible, only in daily soaps that runs for a longer period of time and there will be no such scope in a short tenure like ‘Yudh’
It may be noted that very recently Colors tried the international format ”24” with the popular Bolywood artist Anil Kapoor and failed to deliver the kind of ratings expected by the industry despite a huge spending on the content. This in-turn prompted Colors to drop such future ideas.
Now that a similar expectation was created on ”Yudh”, the success and failure of this show will have a far reaching impact on the future programming strategies of GECs in National and Regional markets.
While the Success might prompt many to follow the suit and plan for similar heavily budgeted short tenure shows with celebrity artists in order to create a momentary surge in the viewership that in-turn can lift the fortune of the channel itself.
However, a flop story might put an end to such kind of costly experiments and prompt the channels to try the age old formula of new daily soap or a Non Fiction reality show.
Let’s wait and see the game.
