Opera Mediaworks, a mobile ad platform, is looking to expand in Asia out of its base in Singapore with the hire of Vikas Gulati from mobile ad exchange Vserv as Asia MD.
He joins with a brief to build revenue and operations, develop the platform’s capabilities, and grow market share in the region.
His focus is to expand the company in India, Indonesia, South Korea, Australia, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand.
Gulati said “We see huge opportunities in mobile video adoption and, in turn, mobile-video advertising in the Asia-Pacific region. We also see other trends in Asia-Pacific – the adoption of better audience targeting, and big retailers and e-commerce sites such as Flipkart and Snapdeal strengthening their focus in m-commerce as consumers get more comfortable making purchases on their mobile devices.”
Opera data finds that mobile web surfing behaviour among users in APAC is being driven by social, entertainment and video sites, and last year the region’s impression market share tripled compared to other markets. In 2015, the number of broadband connections in Asia is expected to reach 1.1 billion, according to research from the GSMA.
