Mumbai: Intel Corporation has announced the appointment of Lip-Bu Tan as Chief Executive Officer, effective March 18, 2025. Tan, a highly respected technology leader with extensive semiconductor industry experience, succeeds Interim Co-CEOs David Zinsner and Michelle (MJ) Johnston Holthaus.
In addition to his new role as CEO, Tan will rejoin Intel’s board of directors after previously stepping down in August 2024. Meanwhile, Zinsner will continue as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, and Holthaus will retain her position as CEO of Intel Products. Frank D. Yeary, who temporarily took on the role of Interim Executive Chair of the Board, will revert to his position as Independent Chair of the Board once Tan assumes leadership.
Tan is widely recognized as a semiconductor and software industry veteran with over two decades of leadership experience. He previously served as CEO of Cadence Design Systems (2009-2021), where he spearheaded a strategic transformation that doubled revenue, expanded operating margins, and resulted in a 3,200% stock price appreciation. Following his tenure as CEO, Tan continued to serve as Executive Chairman of Cadence until 2023.
He is also the Founding Managing Partner of Walden Catalyst Ventures and Chairman of Walden International, along with holding board positions at Credo Technology Group and Schneider Electric.
Tan holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), a Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering from MIT, and an MBA from the University of San Francisco. He was honored with the Robert N. Noyce Award in 2022, the highest recognition by the Semiconductor Industry Association.
As Intel embarks on its next chapter under Tan’s leadership, the company aims to accelerate semiconductor advancements, strengthen its ecosystem, and drive long-term growth in a rapidly evolving industry.
