Mumbai: In a thought-provoking initiative for World Kidney Day 2025, Manipal Hospitals has launched the “Mass Resignation of Kidneys” campaign to highlight the growing crisis of kidney diseases and the urgent need for preventive care.
At the heart of this unique campaign is a “Resignation Letter” from kidneys, humorously yet poignantly addressing the overwork and neglect they endure due to poor lifestyle choices, lack of awareness, and delayed diagnosis. The initiative serves as a wake-up call, urging people to prioritize kidney health before it’s too late.
Reflecting on the campaign’s impact, Dr. H Sudarshan Ballal, Chairman, Manipal Hospitals, shared, “Our kidneys are resilient—they work tirelessly, yet we neglect them. With this initiative, we wish to bring awareness to the community to take small steps for these unsung heroes of the body—our kidneys. Consider a healthy lifestyle, adequate water intake, healthier meals, and annual kidney check-ups. Avoid excessive salt, processed foods, sugary drinks, alcohol, smoking, and overuse of painkillers. Take care of your kidneys, and they’ll take care of you.”
The “Kidney Resignation” announcement quickly gained traction across social media and email communications, sparking conversations and encouraging people to reflect on their health choices.
Tina Chowdhury Negi, Entrepreneur, reacted, “A wake-up call indeed—the mass resignation of kidneys! Years of continuous and tiring overwork—thanks to poor hydration, excessive junk food, and sedentary lifestyles—have finally taken a toll. Our kidneys have been our loyal warriors—it’s time we support and stand by them before the system collapses. Prevention is the only way forward.”
Indranil Roy Choudhury, IT professional, found the campaign highly relatable, “I recently came across Manipal Hospitals’ creative campaign featuring a personified kidney resigning from its job due to overload. As someone from the corporate world, I instantly connected with the message. The campaign’s intelligent approach resonated deeply with me. By putting themselves in our shoes, Manipal Hospitals ensured the message was relatable and impactful. The unique storytelling approach made me pause and reflect, rather than simply scrolling past.
The campaign’s effectiveness was evident when I found myself unconsciously taking a sip of water after reading the kidney’s ‘resignation letter’. Kudos to Manipal Hospitals for creating a thought-provoking and engaging campaign that drives home an essential health message.”
Pushpa Kumari M & K S Sindhuri Murthy, Seal Play Schools, emphasized its importance, “This campaign truly makes us think about our kidney health in a whole new way. Let’s focus on hydration and healthy eating habits while avoiding processed foods and prioritizing overall well-being.”
Clemento Gomes, Engineer – Cabin Electronics, Airbus India, remarked: “It’s a powerful reminder to prioritize kidney health. We often take our kidneys for granted, and this initiative highlights their importance in a way that sticks with people.”
Puneeth Rao, Co-founder & CTO, Chirayu Tech India Pvt Ltd, added: “This is more than just an awareness drive—it’s a movement that could save lives. I hope more people start taking kidney health seriously.”
Through this campaign, Manipal Hospitals is urging people to take a proactive step by:
Scheduling kidney health check-ups
