Mumbai: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Shemaroo Entertainment has launched a thought-provoking campaign, #HarRoleIsHerRole, aimed at challenging deep-rooted gender biases and promoting true equality across all professions. The campaign goes beyond the usual conversation, confronting unconscious prejudices that still shape societal norms, ensuring that representation in everyday life reflects the principle of equality.
As part of this initiative, Shemaroo Entertainment conducted a social experiment where 10 artists were asked to paint portraits of professionals in various fields, such as chefs, cricketers, scientists, army officers, wrestlers, doctors, pilots, and firefighters. The outcome was revealing: all the artists portrayed men in these roles, underscoring how ingrained gender biases continue to influence perceptions of ambition, opportunity, and success.

Arghya Chakravarty, Chief Operating Officer at Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd, highlighted the power of media in influencing change. He said, “We recognize the power of media in shaping perspectives and driving change. With #HarRoleIsHerRole, we are not just starting a conversation—we are taking action. Equality isn’t just about opportunity; it’s about visibility. By challenging outdated norms and promoting balanced representation, we ensure that talent and ambition—not gender—define success. This commitment extends beyond our content to our own organization, where we foster inclusivity, champion equal opportunities, and cultivate diverse leadership. Real change begins with what we showcase, what we teach, and how we lead every day.”
The campaign also addresses how even educational tools, such as occupation charts in schools, reinforce stereotypes, often portraying men in leadership roles and women in stereotypical professions like teaching or nursing. In response, Shemaroo Entertainment has redesigned the traditional occupation charts to ensure equal representation of both men and women across all professions. These updated charts are being distributed to schools and NGOs across India to lay the foundation of true equality in the minds of the next generation.

Anuja Trivedi, Chief Marketing Officer at Shemaroo Entertainment, emphasized the brand’s commitment to using storytelling as a tool for social change. “At Shemaroo Entertainment, we’ve always believed in the power of stories to inspire change. #HarRoleIsHerRole is more than just a movement; it’s a shift in mindset. By bringing this initiative to life, we aim to shape a generation that grows up seeing the world differently—free from the biases that have held us back for far too long. True change begins with how we see the world, and we are committed to making that vision more inclusive, more equal, and more powerful.”
This Women’s Day, Shemaroo Entertainment invites everyone to reflect on gender biases, rethink stereotypes, and reimagine a world where every role truly belongs to everyone. “When dreams are no longer incomplete, India smiles,” said Shemaroo Entertainment, reaffirming its commitment to fostering an environment where everyone can thrive equally.
