Zeno Group has announced the appointment of David Lian as Regional President for Asia Pacific. A 10-year veteran of the agency, Lian succeeds Paul Mottram, who is stepping down from the role to pursue personal interests. Mottram will remain with Zeno until January 2025 to ensure a smooth transition.
Lian, who has been instrumental in Zeno’s growth in the region, was most recently Managing Director for Growth and Innovation in APAC. In this role, he led the agency’s data-driven strategic initiatives, championed the adoption of AI technologies, and anchored key client relationships. Before that, he established and expanded Zeno Malaysia, growing the business to a 40+ member team within five years.
Based in Singapore, Lian will report directly to Zeno Global Chief Executive Officer Barby K. Siegel. “David has been a pillar of Zeno APAC for more than a decade, a capable and visionary leader, and a staunch champion of our culture,” Siegel said. “Together with the region’s talented team of leaders, I am confident in David’s ability to take Zeno forward—building and innovating in ways that will advance our now and next ambition.”
Siegel also expressed gratitude to Paul Mottram for his leadership over the past five years, including steering the firm through the challenges of the pandemic and helping establish Zeno China Consulting, a new venture in Mainland China.
Reflecting on his new role, Lian said, “I’ve seen Zeno evolve significantly since our beginnings in Asia Pacific in 2012 to become one of the region’s most progressive communications firms. As I look ahead with my trusted leaders and colleagues, we will be focused on ensuring that we are well positioned to help our clients solve business challenges with modern communications and sharp business acumen while also preparing for what’s to come.”
Mottram, who has led Zeno in APAC since early 2020, shared his appreciation for his time with the firm. “I’m honored to have been given the opportunity to work with such talented global, regional, and local teams in my time with Zeno,” he said. “As David and his team continue to develop and grow the business, I’m going to be cheering loudly from the sidelines.”
Under Lian’s leadership, Zeno aims to further build on its legacy of innovative and results-driven communication strategies while expanding its influence across the Asia Pacific region.
