Mumbai: In a groundbreaking decision, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed the dates for the next three seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 2025 edition will kick off on March 14, with the final scheduled for May 25. Similarly, the 2026 season will run from March 15 to May 31, while the 2027 season is set to take place between March 14 and May 30. This is the first time IPL dates for multiple years have been announced in advance, a move aimed at better planning for players, franchises, and stakeholders.
As in the previous three years, a total of 74 matches will be played in the upcoming 2025 season. This consistency ensures a familiar structure for fans and teams alike. However, the match count is still ten short of the 84 matches initially listed by the IPL during the media rights auction for the 2023–27 cycle in 2022.
The IPL governing council has referred to these dates as “windows” but indicated that they are likely to be finalized. Franchises have been officially informed about the decision, ensuring clarity and long-term preparation for all ten teams.
Cricket Australia has cleared its international and domestic players to participate in IPL 2025, marking their continued support for the tournament. For IPL 2026, however, Australia will conclude a three-match ODI series in Pakistan by March 18, potentially affecting player availability for the initial stages of the season.
According to ESPNcricinfo, players from most full-member nations have also received approval from their respective cricket boards to feature in the IPL over the next three years. This ensures that the league will continue to attract top-tier international talent, further solidifying its reputation as the premier T20 tournament globally.
The BCCI’s announcement provides unprecedented foresight into the scheduling of cricket’s most lucrative league, promising another three years of high-octane action for fans and stakeholders alike.
