Chennai: Apollo Proton Cancer Centre (APCC), Apollo Cancer Centers (ACC), and Vikatan Publications have launched a groundbreaking initiative under the #TalkPink theme for 2024 to raise awareness about breast self-examination in Tamil Nadu. The collaboration introduced a first-of-its-kind print innovation in Aval Vikatan, the state’s leading women’s magazine, aimed at helping women detect breast health issues early through a simple self-examination technique.
The initiative provides women with a quick, three-minute breast self-exam method, offering step-by-step instructions to recognize potential issues, such as feeling for a breast lump. This hands-on guide makes the process accessible, clear, and easy to follow, encouraging women to take proactive health steps.
Targeting women across Tamil Nadu, especially in rural areas, the campaign emphasizes the importance of monthly self-exams and annual mammograms for women over 40. Early detection is crucial for improving breast cancer outcomes, and the campaign aims to inspire women to take action and prioritize their health.
B Srinivasan, Managing Director, Vikatan Group, added, ” As a leading publication, Vikatan has always empowered its readers. Through Aval Vikatan’s collaboration with Apollo Cancer Centres and Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, we are not only raising awareness but also actively promoting the health and wellness of women across Tamil Nadu. This initiative underscores our commitment to delivering life-saving information in an engaging and accessible format.”
Harshad Reddy, Director – Group Oncology and International, Apollo Hospitals said “Partnering with Vikatan allowed us to bring this message directly into the hands of our audience in an impactful and innovative way. By simplifying the self-exam process, we hope to encourage women to prioritize their health and well-being. Our goal is to make breast self-exams a routine part of every woman’s life.”
This effort is part of Apollo’s broader #TalkPink campaign, which strives to move beyond awareness to encourage women to actively monitor their health. Breast cancer is a leading cause of death among women in India, and early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes.
By partnering with Vikatan Publications, the campaign reaches thousands of women, making breast health a relatable, approachable topic. The initiative seeks to reduce stigma, increase awareness, and promote timely medical intervention.
