Bengaluru: Samarth Sharma has resigned from his position as Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Asianet News Media and Entertainment. Sharma, who was also responsible for overseeing Asianet News Digital at Asianet Digital Technologies, confirmed the decision, stating that he plans to take a short break to spend time with his family.
Sharma’s tenure at the company lasted over four years, beginning as Chief Business Officer in May 2020. His promotion to COO in January 2023 saw him managing key aspects of Asianet’s operations, including global revenue, audience growth, and strategic partnerships. He was instrumental in driving the company’s digital-first approach and spearheaded organic and inorganic growth across multiple media entities within the organization.
Confirming his exit from Asianet News to MediaNews4U, Sharma said, “I joined in May 2020, at the height of the Covid pandemic, and have had the privilege of contributing to the significant growth and transformation the organization has experienced over the past four years. My tenure has been both personally and professionally rewarding, and I am grateful for the exceptional team that I had the pleasure of working with. As I step away from my role, I look forward to taking a few months to spend quality time with family and friends before I embark on my next professional chapter.”
In addition to his role at Asianet, Sharma contributed to various strategic initiatives at Jupiter Capital, the Bengaluru-based venture capital firm that owns Asianet News, taking on multiple responsibilities when needed.
Before joining Asianet, Sharma was the Co-founder and Chief Business Officer of Sportskeeda, a leading sports media platform. His career spans nearly two decades, with previous stints at Google, Cognizant Business Consulting, Deutsche Bank, and TransUnion, where he gained extensive experience in business operations, digital strategy, and partnerships.
