Mumbai: As Diwali approaches, Godrej L’Affaire, the experiential lifestyle platform of Godrej Industries Group, continues its #CelebratingAcceptance campaign, promoting love and inclusion through a poignant new film.
The film, set against the backdrop of Diwali’s vibrant festivities, highlights the emotional journey of a same-sex couple and challenges existing stereotypes. Through the eyes of young Shlok, who learns about diverse family dynamics from his neighbor, the narrative emphasizes that true relationships are built on acceptance rather than tradition. The neighbor’s heartfelt lessons teach Shlok that “Riwaazo se Rishte nahi Bante” (Relationships aren’t built on traditions), but “Hum rishton se Riwaaz banate hai” (We create traditions through relationships).
Featuring actors Ankit Andulekar and Shailesh Gupta as the same-sex couple, the film conveys powerful messages about love and acceptance. It incorporates a touching metaphor, stating, “Brown ho ya colourful, hai toh dono mitti ke diye na” (Brown or colorful, after all, every diya is made from the same clay), promoting the idea that all relationships deserve recognition and celebration.
Sujit Patil, Chief Communications Officer at Godrej Industries, expressed, “This film aims to widen traditional norms and spark conversations about love that transcends boundaries. Diwali should be a time when the light of acceptance shines equally bright for everyone, regardless of who they love.”
Parmesh Shahani, Head of Godrej DEI Lab, emphasized the company’s commitment to inclusion, noting the importance of family support for the LGBTQIA+ community. He highlighted recent government initiatives that promote LGBTQIA+ rights, reinforcing the need for societal acceptance and inclusion.
Aadie Sawant, the campaign’s ideator and screenplay writer, added, “Familiarizing children with diverse perspectives is crucial for fostering acceptance and understanding, paving the way for a more inclusive future.”
