MUMBAI: In order to push breast cancer awareness, Nanavati Max Hospital has launched the ‘Pink Speedbreaker’ Campaign across locations in Mumbai. As part of this initiative, speedbreakers at vital junctions of Juhu, Vile Parle – Santacruz S.V. Road and Carter Road, Bandra, had been painted pink. Each speedbreaker carries the message, ‘Some Bumps Can Slow Down Life,’ encouraging people to take time out from their hectic routines for regular health screenings, emphasising the importance of early detection in preventing life-threatening complications.
Adding to the initiative, the Asiatic Library, Fort has been bathed in pink light, symbolizing hope, resilience, and the need to prioritise breast health.
The hospital is also organising a Pink Walk on 26 October, where over 100 community representatives will come together, donning pink T-shirts and carrying placards with messages of solidarity for breast cancer survivors. The event will culminate with the release of pink balloons, spreading awareness about the importance of early screening and detection to improve survival outcomes.
Dr. Garvit Chitkara, Senior Consultant, Breast Surgical Oncology & Oncoplastic Surgery, Nanavati Max Hospital, said, “Breast cancer remains one of the most common cancers worldwide. Initiatives like these emphasise the critical role of regular screening and early detection in improving outcomes. Our experience shows that patients diagnosed through routine screenings have significantly better treatment results than those who discover the disease by chance at a more advanced stage. This breast cancer awareness month onwards, let’s take charge of our health and play our part in creating awareness and reducing the disease burden.”
