Robert Gilby has officially stepped down from his role as APAC CEO at Dentsu, concluding a two-year tenure marked by significant transformation and growth. Gilby announced his resignation via LinkedIn, reflecting on his journey and the strategic initiatives he led during his time at the company.
In his message, he stated, “Yesterday was my last day as APAC CEO of Dentsu. It’s been an incredible journey over the last two years as Dentsu’s international and Japan leadership came together into a single Global Executive. Our mission, to create One Dentsu, focused on transforming the Operating Model to drive a more client-centric strategy that innovates through creativity, marketing, and technology.”
Gilby highlighted the challenges faced during his tenure, including market headwinds and intense competition, noting, “When I joined, there was an urgent need to unify the APAC team, strengthen leadership, and align with global direction while delivering client success. The journey has not been easy, yet I’m so proud of the incredible leadership and talented teams across the region.”
He emphasized that APAC is uniquely positioned to embrace Dentsu’s Japan heritage and expressed confidence in the robust and strategy now in place. “With the APAC regional turnaround almost complete, it’s the right time for me to step aside, enabling closer strategic alignment with Japan under the leadership of Global Chief Strategy Officer, Yoshi Ishihara.”
Reflecting on his experiences, Gilby shared several standout moments, including partnerships with iconic brands and innovative collaborations with major tech companies like Google, Meta, and TikTok. He extended his gratitude to Wendy Clark and Hiroshi Igarashi for their support throughout his journey.
Looking ahead, Gilby plans to take a break to spend quality time with family and focus on personal growth, including enhancing his knowledge in AI, sustainability, and reconnecting with peers in the media landscape.
Before joining Dentsu, Gilby held prominent positions at various leading organizations, including Blue Hat Ventures, Nielsen, The Walt Disney Company, and Turner, and began his career at PwC in 1992. With three decades of rich experience, he brings expertise in General Management, Commercial Sales, Marketing, Strategy, and Finance.
As Dentsu prepares for its next chapter, the company expresses appreciation for Gilby’s leadership and contributions during a transformative period in the APAC region.
