New Delhi: Sukanta Majumdar, Union Minister of State for Education, highlighted the transformative potential of gamification in education during a video message for the second edition of the Indian Gaming Convention (IGC) 2024. The two-day event, organized by the Internet and Mobile Association of India, will take place on October 14-15 at the Taj Palace in New Delhi.
The theme for IGC 2024, “India—the Next Superpower in Gaming,” underscores the country’s ambition to emerge as a global leader in the gaming industry. With Meta as the Title Partner, the convention will feature over 60 prominent speakers, including policymakers, senior government officials, and industry leaders, sharing insights with more than 1,000 delegates.
In his address, Majumdar emphasized that gamification can revolutionize traditional learning methods by making education more attractive and engaging for students. “Gamification can make complex subjects more accessible and encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity, fostering literacy from an early age and preparing students for a tech-driven future,” he stated.
He further noted that emerging technologies enhance educators’ ability to address individual student needs, creating more inclusive classrooms and reducing learning inequality. “The Ministry of Education is committed to providing quality education and ensuring our youth is future-ready by modernizing our education system,” he added.
Discussing the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Shri Majumdar remarked, “The NEP emphasizes the use of innovations like gamification to improve the efficacy of our education system. Technologies such as gamification, augmented reality, and virtual reality will be key tools for making education interactive and engaging.”
While promoting a culture of innovation through initiatives like Atal Tinkering Labs and Startup India, he also stressed the importance of responsible gaming, particularly for younger audiences. “The government, parents, and educators must work together to ensure a balanced approach that promotes cognitive development without fostering addiction or negative behavior.”
Major partners of IGC 2024 include Gold Partners Salesforce and Veve, Silver Partners Google Cloud and Bureau, Lanyard partner Moloco, GameTech Enabler Singhtek, and Knowledge Partner PWC.
