Ravi Ahuja, currently the chairman of Global Television and chief operating officer (COO) at Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE), will take over as chief executive officer (CEO) on January 2, 2025. This announcement marks a significant leadership transition as he succeeds Tony Vinciquerra, who has held the position since 2017. Vinciquerra will remain with the company as a non-executive chairman in an advisory role until December 2025.
During his tenure, Vinciquerra made pivotal decisions, including the acquisition of Crunchyroll in 2021 and the strategic divestiture of most of SPE’s international cable networks amidst market declines. He also chose not to pursue a general entertainment streaming service, a decision that shaped SPE’s strategic direction.
Ahuja joined SPE in 2021 and has played a critical role in overseeing production for Sony Pictures Television (SPT) and managing the studio’s operations in India. Before his tenure at SPE, he served as President of Business Operations and CFO at Walt Disney Television, with previous leadership roles at Fox Networks Group and Virgin Entertainment Group.
In his new role, Ahuja will report directly to Kenichiro Yoshida, Chairman and CEO of Sony Group Corporation, and Hiroki Totoki, President, COO, and CFO.
“Since joining SPE, Ravi has been a vital member of Tony’s leadership team, guiding the company through the challenges of the media and entertainment landscape and positioning SPE for future growth. With his extensive experience in leading successful entertainment companies, we look forward to collaborating closely with him as he steps into the role of President and CEO of SPE,” said Yoshida.
