News18 Tamil Nadu proudly hosted the prestigious ‘Magudam Awards 2024’ at the ITC Chola, Guindy, to honor outstanding individuals who have significantly contributed to society in various fields, including Science & Technology, Film Industry, Arts and Culture, Literature, Education, and Sports.
The grand gala was attended by a host of distinguished dignitaries from across the state. The Chief Guest for the evening was the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker M. Appavu. Other notable attendees included Honorable Judges of the Madras High Court Suresh Kumar and Bhavani Subboroyan, Kamakodi, Director of IIT Madras, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi – M.P., and Former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam.
With 24 awards spanning 20 categories, the Magudam Awards 2024 celebrated the achievements of individuals who have inspired and led by example in their respective fields. Some of the notable awardees include:
Lifetime Achievement Award – R. Balakrishnan, retired IAS officer, honored for his pivotal contributions to Odisha’s development and decades of dedicated service.
Science and Technology Award – R. Veeramuthuvel, acknowledged for his immense contributions to Science and Technology.
Star of Hope Award – Rohini & Suganya, the first-ever tribal students to join the prestigious NIT Trichy in the past 60 years, creating history.
Youth Icon Award – D. Gukesh, a chess prodigy and the youngest-ever challenger for the World title, recognized for his outstanding achievements in the field of Chess.
Favourite Hero of the Decade – Sivakarthikeyan, celebrated for his immense popularity and influence in Tamil Cinema.
Motivational Icon – Sylendra Babu, recognized for his inspiring leadership, motivation to the younger generation, and contributions to law enforcement in the state.
Best Arts and Culture Award – Kaleeshwaran, honored for his exceptional work in preserving and promoting folk art and educating students.
Literature Icon Award – A. Vennila, acknowledged for her significant contributions to Tamil Literature.
Exceptional Educational Contribution – Mugavari Ramesh, recognized for his dedication to advancing education and making a difference in the lives of students.
Business Leader Award – Dr. Nandini Rangaswamy, Chairman CII, South region, honored for her leadership and impact in the business world.

Favourite Lyricist of the Decade – Yugabharathi.
