London International Awards announces the Digital and Use of Social Media & Influencers and Music & Sound juries with Malcolm Poynton, Global Chief Creative Officer / President Creative, Cheil Worldwide as Jury President for the Digital and Use of Social Media & Influencers competitions and chairing the Music & Sound Jury will be Carol Dunn, Managing Director, Barking Owl, Los Angeles.
They will lead their respective juries onsite at Encore @ Wynn, Las Vegas, where they will view and judge all work that has been submitted into their respective categories. As there is no off-site pre-judging, all jurors are fully involved in all rounds of judging, so everyone is privy to the final results before they are published.
The internet and digital access unlocked a whole new world for advertising. Brands quickly harnessed the power of social media platforms. Consumers can now actively comment, share and participate in promoting a brand. Gone are the days when blanket-marketing method was used. Consumers want brands to talk specifically to them.
Malcolm Poynton is passionate about redefining how brands connect with consumers. He is a recognized industry thought leader and champion of how brands can grow, while positively impacting societies. One of the industry’s most awarded creatives, he is recognized by AdAge as one of the ‘World’s Top 10 Digital Minds’.
On chairing the Digital and Use of Social Media & Influencers Jury Poynton said, “Digital, social & influencer marketing is the most exciting, fast-moving space for creativity today. It’s where elections are won, brands are built and fails become memes. I’m looking forward to working with the incredibly talented LIA jury to shine a light on what’s been hot in 2024.”
The importance of music and sound design cannot be downplayed. Aligning the right music and sound to the visuals sets the atmosphere. These essential components can elevate the emotional connection of a piece of creative work, enhance recall and brand identity. As Leo Tolstoy once rightly said: “Music is the shorthand of emotion.”
Carol Dunn’s music career stretches over 30 years, which began on the label side as a switchboard operator at Capitol Records. By being inquisitive and sharing her love of music & film with renowned music supervisor, Karyn Rachtman (Clueless, Pulp Fiction, Get Shorty) she was able to parlay that position from answering phones to sitting behind her own desk and helping produce notable soundtracks such as, Boogie Nights, Stealing Beauty, Baz Lurhmann’s Romeo + Juliet, Mystery Men, Bulworth, Rugats I & II and Office Space to name a few. As the landscape of how music is delivered began moving from actual records & CDs to streams and downloads, her career moved over to music publishing, where she sharpened her synch chops even further. From publishing, she moved directly onto the advertising side and has not looked back.
In accepting the honor as Jury President of Music & Sound, Dunn stated, “I am honored to have been named the LIA Music & Sound Jury President for 2024. My passion for integrating music with visuals has propelled me into a position where I can collaborate with some of the most skilled individuals in the industry. The opportunity to assess the work of my peers and be consistently impressed speaks volumes about the dedication and expertise we all have.
Judging the subjectivity of creativity while prioritizing craftsmanship demonstrates an understanding of the nuances involved in evaluating artistic endeavors. As the leader of the jury, I have the important responsibility of facilitating discussions to determine the winners.
My commitment to this role of Jury President reflects a deep respect for the artistry and innovation of music and sound within the advertising industry. I have long been a champion of excellence in music and sound design and along with the rest of my colleagues on this jury, look forward to contributing to the ongoing advancement of creative expression of music and sound design in advertising.
Wish me luck in leading the conversation and recognizing outstanding achievements in the field of music and sound in advertising for 2024!”
Barbara Levy, President of LIA, said, “We engage with digital technology and with music in our everyday life. We cannot imagine a world without either – both powerful media that can move people and leave a lasting impression. We have two very strong Jury Presidents and Jury members for these competitions. People who are the top in the business. And when you have the top people judging, you are assured that only great work will make the cut.”
