Brendan Conan Pereira, a luminary in the world of advertising, passed away on July 21, 2024. His illustrious career spanned several decades, leaving an indelible mark on the industry.
Born in 1928, Pereira’s passion for art and design led him to enroll in Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Art, where he pursued a Diploma in Applied Art, mastering block-making, lithography, and photography. His journey in advertising began in 1949 as an apprentice at L.A. Stronachs Advertising. He later joined D.J. Keymer (Bensons, OBM, now O&M), where he honed his skills as a visualizer and assistant to art director P.N. Sarma.
In 1956, seeking further education and experience, Pereira moved to the UK. He joined Rapier Design in London and later worked at Baron Moss, where he was appointed Art Director. His tenure at C. Vernon’s saw him working on a diverse range of products, further cementing his reputation as a creative genius.
In 1960, Pereira joined Aiyars Advertising in Bombay to work on the newly acquired Beechams account. He spent a year with Beechams in London, immersing himself in their products and global marketing strategies. Upon his return in 1961, he assumed the role of Creative Director at Aiyars Advertising, overseeing all creative work and managing the Beecham account. His leadership and vision led to the eventual partnership of Aiyars with LPE, London, forming LPE-Aiyars, where he was elected to the board.
March 1972 marked a significant milestone in Pereira’s career as he co-founded Chaitra Advertising (now Leo Burnett) alongside Walter Saldanha. His innovative approach and creative brilliance were pivotal in establishing the agency’s reputation. In 1983, he left Chaitra to establish his own consultancy, GLIMA. His expertise was soon recognized by Clarion Advertising, who appointed him as a Creative Consultant.
Pereira’s legacy continued with his support in the formation of Nova Advertising Palace in 1992, where he served as Consultant, Managing Director, and shareholder. His profound influence on advertising and his unwavering commitment to creativity and excellence remain an inspiration to many.
