Mumbai: Ormax Media has published ‘The Bollywood Image Report 2024’. This covers various aspects that can impact Bollywood’s image among its audience, including the comparison with South cinema
– Only 11% Hindi theatre-going audience believe that Hindi films are better than South films, while 46% felt that South films are superior, with the remaining finding both equally good
– The perception that South films have better stories is the strongest reason for preference of South films over those in Hindi. Bollywood must counter this image crisis through better story selection over a period of time
– The success of the Baahubali franchise was a watershed moment in the Indian film industry, opening up a whole new market for South Indian films, all over the country. This trend continued post the pandemic, with the success of films like ‘K.G.F: Chapter 2’, ‘RRR’, ‘Pushpa: The Rise’, and the recent ‘Kalki 2898 AD’.
Simultaneously, only a few titles coming out of the Hindi film industry have managed to make strong headway at the box office, with multiple large-scale projects headlined by prominent stars failing to garner audience appreciation.
