Hyderabad: Ramoji Rao, the founder of Eenadu and Ramoji Film City, breathed his last on Saturday morning in Hyderabad, Telangana, while receiving treatment at Star Hospital. He passed away at 3:45 am, as confirmed by ANI. He was 87 years old.
Cherukuri Ramoji Rao, born on November 16, 1936, stood as the influential figure at the helm of the Ramoji Group, a conglomerate renowned for its diverse holdings, including the famed Ramoji Film City, Eenadu newspaper, film production entity Usha Kiran Movies and the expansive ETV Network of television channels across regional markets and Hindi heartland, which he later sold it to Network18.
Ramoji Rao’s journey was characterized by relentless pursuit of excellence and unwavering commitment to journalistic integrity. Under his stewardship, the Eenadu Group emerged as a powerhouse in the media landscape, setting new standards for quality and credibility. Recognising his contribution, Govt of India bestowed the media tycoon with the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award in India. Rao’s multifaceted contributions were duly recognized through numerous accolades, including four Filmfare Awards South, five Nandi Awards, and the prestigious National Film Award, all commemorating his significant contributions to Telugu cinema. Furthermore, his exceptional achievements garnered national acclaim, culminating in the conferment of the Padma Vibhushan in 2016, India’s second-highest civilian honor, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to journalism, literature, and education. His legacy remains a testament to his unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation. Tragically, Ramoji Rao’s illustrious journey met its end on June 8, 2024, as he succumbed to heart-related complications, marking the close of an era in Indian media and entertainment.
