Mumbai: The US has got 530 final shortlisted entries for this year’s D&AD Awards. The winners will be revealed at the ceremony on 22 May in London.
There were a total of 12,387 entries made up of over 30,000 individual pieces of work, the highest number of entries since 2007. Entries were from 78 countries, 6% from the Middle East and India, 21% from Europe (excluding UK and Ireland), 31% from US and Canada, 3% from South East Asia, 18% from UK and Ireland 5% from Oceania, 5% from Latin America, 4% from China, 5% from Japan and Singapore, 2% from Africa.
300+ international judges gathered in London to make up 43 juries across award categories including Design, Advertising, Craft, Engagement and Experience, Health, Luxury, Entertainment and Impact.
New categories such as Luxury, Pharma, Sustained Impact, Health and Wellbeing reflect the evolving landscape of the creative industries
There are 43 Awards categories across the following disciplines: Design, Advertising, Craft, Engagement and Experience, Health, Luxury, Entertainment and Impact. Jo Jackson, CEO, D&AD said, “Whether they go on to win a Pencil or not the Shortlist represents the best creative work of the industry today. We’ve had entries from over 78 countries, judged by jury members from over 60 countries (54% female). It’s important to us that all work is judged on its own merit and the judges are enabled to understand the cultural context of each piece of work. The team at D&AD work extremely hard to ensure the best representation possible within each Jury, so that all work has the best chance of being considered to win a Pencil.”
The non-profit organisation added that it goes to great lengths to ensure a rigorous judging process. The focus rests on integrity, with industry leaders selecting only the most exceptional creative work. Their focus on creativity, originality, and effectiveness ensures that winning entries represent the pinnacle of excellence in advertising and design.
The Awards incorporate more than 43 categories judged by 300+ of the world’s leading creatives from over 60 countries (54% female), recognising work that will inspire both seasoned and emerging talent. As a charity, Awards entries enable D&AD to fund educational programs such as D&AD Shift, a free, industry-led night school for self-taught creatives from under-represented backgrounds, currently running in London, New York, Berlin, São Paulo and Sydney with more locations to be announced.
New categories such as Luxury, Pharma, Sustained Impact, Health and Wellbeing reflect the evolving landscape of the creative industries, acknowledging the increasing importance of these sectors in Marketing and Design. It allows the international awards to stay current and inclusive, recognising excellence in these specialised areas and providing a platform for innovative work that addresses unique challenges.
