Mumbai: The current OTT viewers in India stand at 216 Mn across all active platforms like Netflix, Hotstar, Prime Video, etc., which in 2 years will grow to cross the 300 Mn mark. Chrome has published the 2023 COTT Annual Report.
The total digital media revenue in 2023 is Rs. 63,200 crores. OTT video platforms account for 31,800 crores. Out of this Rs. 21900 crores is Avod with SVod accounting for the rest. Meta accounts for Rs. 16,500 crores. In January 2024 Avod had 133 million unique viewers. This is projected to grow to 205 unique million viewers. for SVod the figure stands at 88 million and this is projected to grow to 110 million in January 2025.
On the revenue front JioCinema had 29.6 per cent share among the OTT platforms. This was followed by Prime Video and Mini TV with 18.9 per cent. Disney+Hotstar had a 12.8% share while Netflix has a 6.5% share. In terms of unique viewers Disney+ Hotstar had 135 million unique viewers followed by JioCinema with 125 million unique viewers. Zee5 had 52 million unique viewers while Prime Video and Mini TV had 51 million unique viewers. While most consumers acceess OTT services through the mobile phone and desktop CTV has accounted for more than half of the accesss for Netflix. It was also important for Prime Video and to a lesser extent for Disney+Hotstar.
Yearly OTT viewers were 504 million for January 2024. For January 2023 it was 496 million. For January 2022 it was 460 million. In 2023 Disney+Hotstar led the weekly watchtime with 171 minutes followed by Netflix with 149 minutes and JioCinema with 142 minutes. SonyLIV had 139 minutes of weekly watchtime. Prime Video had 125 minutes of weekly watchtime. Males consumed OTT platforms more than women in 2023. Prime Video got a large part of its viewership from the 2-24 age group with 31.9 per cent. But with the other platforms it was the 25-34 age group that was the most important. For Disney+Hotstar and JioCinema the 25-34 age group contributed 40.1 per cent and 39.8 per cent respectively.
