The Kerala High Court has issued a directive to the Union Government, represented by the Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, to expeditiously rectify infringements of broadcasting regulations and advisories pertaining to the telecast of Big Boss Malayalam Season 6.
The Division Bench stated that the union government can direct to refrain from telecasting shows if violations of advisories were found.
“In such circumstances, we direct 1st respondent to immediately address the violations of advisories, if necessary, by instructing the party respondents herein to desist from telecasting such shows in the electronic media. The petitioner is also permitted to forward a copy of the captured video of the telecast to the 1st respondent.”
The aforementioned interim order was issued by the Court in response to a writ petition lodged by Advocate Adarsh S, asserting that the Indian Reality Show- Big Boss Malayalam Season 6 contravenes broadcasting regulations and advisories mandated by the Union Government, by broadcasting scenes depicting physical assault on national television. The petitioner presented visual evidence in the form of images and videos showcasing instances of physical assault aired on national television.
“The matter raises a serious concern”, stated the Court and issued notice to the State Police Chief, Endemol Shine India, Disney Star, Asianet Satellite Communications Ltd., Film actor and Big Boss Malayalam host Mohanlal.
