Sheyphali B Sharan has named as the Principal Director General (PDG) of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) after the official announcement was made. While Sharan takes charge as new PDG, the incumbent PDG Manish Desai’s stint with PIB has ended on 31st March 2024.
With over three decades of career experience, Sharan’s portfolio covers majorly around media publicity work as Press Information Bureau officer for Ministries including Finance, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Not to mention, she also worked as the Spokesperson for Election Commission of India.
Sharan’s career span also includes her stint with Central Staffing Scheme Deputations as Director at the Ministries of Health (2002-2007) and Finance (2013-2017), and Information and Broadcasting (2000-2002). She also took up roles as Director Administration and Finance at LSTV, Lok Sabha Secretariat in 2007-2008.
Sharan is the first female PIB head under Modi since 2014, following past officers Neelam Kapoor, Deepak Sandhu, Shakuntala Mahawal, and N J Krishna. She is also an officer from 1990 batch of Indian Information Service.
