Following backlashes from netizens and hindu religious groups on alleged misrepresentations of Lord Rama and hurting religious sentiments, Nayantara starrer ‘Annapoorani’ has been removed from Netflix.
The Indian production company, Zee Studios, has issued a public apology, which stated that as Co-producers of the film, they didn’t have any intentions to hurt religious sentiments of the Hindus or Brahmins. They also pledged to review and remove the contentious scenes if found inappropriate.
The movie was bankrolled by Zee Studios, Trident Arts and Naad SStudios.
“In relation to the same, we are in the process of coordinating with our co-producers rident Arts to undertake requisite actions to address your concerns in relation to the said Film and also with Netflix to immediately remove the Film from their platform until edited”, the letter read.
Annapoorani: The Goddess of Foodis a 2023 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by Nilesh Krishnaa. The film stars Nayanthara in the title role, alongside Jai and Sathyaraj. It follows Annapoorani, who dreams of being a chef, and the obstacles she comes across while trying to fulfill her dream.
