Denman Professional, an 80-year old hair brush brand, is looking to expand its presence in the Indian market. On Tuesday, October 3, 2023, the company announced a partnership with SSIZ International, a beauty and grooming company catering to the salon professionals market in India.
In conversation with Medianews4u.com, Martyn Wady, CEO, Denman Professional, says, “India is quite a small market for us but it has growth potential. The hairdressers in India are very professional and they are very into creativity. We want to work with professional hairdressers. We have a saying: ‘There is no right or wrong way to use a Denman, there’s your way’. So, we want the hairdressers in India to show us how they use our brushes to create beautiful hair.”
Present in 84 countries, Denman Professional has a strong base in the UK, USA, Japan and Germany. The hair brushes are mostly used by professionals in salons and hair stylists across the globe. The brand also wants to explore other global markets and make innovative products for every hair type.
“We are currently working on Africa and South America. These are two areas which have very different hair and very different types of hairdressers. We believe Denman has a hairbrush for every hair type and every hair style. We are global and as I said, we want to connect with the professional hairdresser and we want to share what they do with our brushes around the world. So, it’s important for British hairdressers to see what Indian hairdressers are doing and for Indian hairdressers to see what South American hairdressers are doing, because hair fashion feeds off each other, hairdressers feed off each other,” asserts Wady.
Denman hair brushes are available on marketplaces including Nykaa, Amazon and Flipkart.
Talking about the price-sensitive market that India is, Wady notes, “Pricing is always a very difficult thing globally but we tend to keep it quite a level playing field. Denman is a premium product so it has a value but we think it has a value as an investment because it will last. Its good quality will help improve your work but will also last a long time. We say we are used by hairdressers and loved by consumers. So, the key is we want our hairdressers to use our brush and then tell their customer to use it afterwards.”
As for exclusive stores, Denman Professionals does not want to open any for now.
“We do not look to open stores ourselves. We understand that in a market we need a good partner. In India, we are partnering with SSIZ because they understand and share our values of being true to the professional, so that’s what we want and that’s why we chose to work with them,” surmises Wady.
