Ride enabler Uber is celebrating its ten-year journey in India with a short digital film. The film features actor Sonu Sood hailing a cab and going on a ride down memory lane.
The film reminds us of the early days of Uber which launched in 2013, by showing us the present and all that has changed with technological advances like UPI payments and ride tracking. It also reminds us, in Sood’s voice, that certain things haven’t changed. The film features Delhi’s first woman bus driver riding an Uber auto to work the night shift, an Uber medic driver changing the drop location to take a patient to the hospital during Covid and a bunch of youngsters clearing up garbage at multiple public places, moving with Uber. Actor-philanthropist Sood underlines that the efforts to impact positive change till continue, just like #IndiaKiRide.
Prabhjeet Singh, President, Uber India and South Asia, said, “Uber has become a part of India’s social fabric and we are proud and privileged to have been able to make a difference by enabling access and movement to riders while enabling livelihood to millions of drivers over the last decade. With a vibrant demography and expanding digital economy, the future is exciting and we look forward to doing our bit to accelerate progress towards India’s envisioned techade.”
A company statement informed that Uber now operates in over 125 cities across India, helping over 8,00,000 drivers earn a sustainable income. It also revealed that in its 10 years in the country, Uber drivers have covered 3,300 crore kilometers on 300 crore trips. A total of 30 lakh driver partners have earned via the app and its drivers have covered 4 crore green kilometers, kicking off the brand’s commitment to be a zero-emissions platform by 2040.
