FMCG Giant HUL notified BSE that Rohit Jawa, who currently serves as the Chief of Transformation at Unilever in London, will succeed Sanjiv Mehta as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective 27th June, 2023.
Jawa, who will also take over as President, Unilever South Asia, will join HUL as CEO designate and Whole-time Director from 1st April, 2023. He will join the Unilever Leadership Executive (ULE) starting 1st April, 2023.
Jawa started his career with HUL as a management trainee in 1988 and has a proven track record of sustained business results across – India, South East Asia, and North Asia. As EVP for North Asia & Chairman for Unilever China, he led a significant transformation of Unilever China into a competitive, profitable, and consistent business, now Unilever’s 3rd biggest globally. As the Chairman of Unilever Philippines, he led the business to become one of the top 10 markets for Unilever globally.
On LinkedIn, Mehta shared his accomplishments during his tenure, stating, “During my time here, HUL has added Euro 4 billion (Rs 32,000 crores) to its turnover, increasing it by 2.3X. We improved our EBITDA margin by 860 bps and EBITDA by 3.5X in the last ten years. The market capitalisation increased by 5X to over $70 billion, which is more than the market cap of many global FMCG companies.”
On his next innings, Mehta wrote, “I am excitedly looking forward to my next inning and will share more about it when possible. Till then, I’d like to quote Robert Frost’s famous lines… “Miles to go before I sleep”.
