Brazil is out. Croatia goes on to the semis. A Croatian player’s son wipes off Neymar’s tears after the game. ‘How was that not a yellow card?’ ask fans of a referee’s decision during the tense Argentina Vs Netherlands game. It’s all happening in Qatar. And the US Soccer fraternity stands up in solidarity to mourn the passing of a journalist who was covering the tournament.

#CycloneMandous #ChennaiRains
There is, understandably, a bit of political noise around Chennai’s handling of the cyclone Mandous that has left a lot of trees uprooted and streets inundated. What is evident though is the overwhelming appreciation from the common man – there is a marked improvement from the downpours of the past and their handling by the powers that were. In particular, @ChennaiCorp is not just proving to be hands-on when it comes to crises, it is also showing how a responsive authority can reassure the public.
#GCC is taking all measures to clear the uprooted trees and fallen tree branches. Power to street lights are cut and will be resumed after clearing the trees. Mosquito fogging activities are also done. Please contact us at 1913 for any help.#ChennaiCorporation#HeretoServe pic.twitter.com/DKN45EvlM9

Dear #Chennaiites#GCC requests you to avoid venturing out until the storm weakens. Nearly 65 trees have fallen down in 3hrs. #GCC is taking all measures to remove the trees. Motor pumps are used to remove water stagnation in low lying saucer shaped areas. pic.twitter.com/xrK9j1O7lC

inward by 20meters owing to the high tides, eroding the sand supporting the ramp which ends 10meters from the usual water line.
GCC officials have inspected the site. This wooden ramp will be repaired & will be put intact, after the cyclone. (3/3)#HeretoServe#ChennaiCorporation pic.twitter.com/gEuk9GtHNT— Greater Chennai Corporation (@chennaicorp) December 9, 2022
Message from my non-twitter parents in Tomdiarpet, Chennai:
Looks like @chennaicorp did a great job to prevent inundated roads in Thiruvalluvar Nagar and #Mandous did very minimal damage vis a vis flooding!!
Great job and good to know no one has to swim thru murky waters!

#IndVsBan
India’s showing against Bangladesh has agonised fans and irked critics. The pens are out. Introspection is on. So are the memes.

#Recession
Not a word we want to hear but it’s started doing the rounds in the West. Will there be an impact in India? Let’s hope not.

#MahsaAmini #IranProtests #IranRevolution
When you think things are getting better, they take a turn for the worse. If the morality police has been disbanded, the regime’s crackdown on protestors has only intensified with executions kicking off. These young people raised their voices for change, only to be silenced forever. Those who dared speak up for them, including journalists, are vanishing too.
Mohsen Shekari was murdered by the state for wanting freedoms so many of us take for granted. My thoughts are with his family and all who loved him. #MohsenShekari #IranRevolution #Mahsa_Amini https://t.co/VnWWjx5Ya7

It's been 40 days since #NazilaMaroofian has been kidnapped (arrested) by the Islamic Republic, & there's still no news about her. Iranians seeking freedom and truth are in real danger.
World must expel IR "diplomats", stop negotiations and put max pressure on IR.#MahsaAmini https://t.co/Y2BRCz6grZ pic.twitter.com/wPPnnCuiVQ

Some say that those who offer the Iranian protesters hope are putting them in danger by encouraging them to protest
I say: #MahsaAmini wasn’t protesting when she was murdered. For 43 yrs the IR has killed Iranians in the dark. Shame on anyone who attempts to turn off the light.
