#Layoffs
Layoffs are the flavour of the season from Twitter to Meta and more. The signs are ominous. We know that a lot of the Indian white collar workforce will take a hit if things go downhill in the US and other markets. We know that the trickle down will be way faster and thicker than the trickle down of prosperity when that happens. The first signs from the media – starting with a disappointing festive season for many – is that we will feel the heat. Here’s hoping that the theory of the Indian economy being insulated works.
Meta confirms it’s firing 13% of its workforce — 11,000 people.
With the Twitter layoff, almost 15,000 people in the social media industry have lost their jobs in one week.

If you are working in an international company with a major footprint in the US then your job is at risk. #layoffs

#IndVsEng
The depression that England’s ruthless chase of 168 in the semi-final brought upon Indian cricket fans was eased to some extent (or worsened depending on how good a sport one is) by the memes that followed. The knives are out for the captain and the openers. Kohli fans are out. Dhoni worshippers are paying tributes to the ‘Forever Captain’. Another World Cup, another loss. This too will pass with the next big win. But do check out the predictions rooted in conviction on a TV channel prior.

A coin has two sides, so does life.
If we celebrate our team’s success like our own then we should be able to take our team's losses too…In life, they both go hand in hand.#INDvsENG

#ChennaiRains
Chennai has received excess rain for this time of the year. On day one of the predicted three-day deluge, there is overwhelming appreciation for the stormwater drainage work done by Chennai Corporation and the attendant lack of flooding in many areas. ‘Before’ and ‘After’ pics abound. Yes, there are areas which are flooded even now. And of course there is politicisation of the flood handling, by more than one side. The neutral voices on the ground are grateful for the work done because we know what we endured in the past few years. What is also heartening to see is collaboration between government departments, the public and top tier institutions to handle the situation better.

#Ukraine
This column has attempted to avoid the Ukraine war but if you see the emotions pouring out, you will agree that these are worth dwelling on. Even if briefly. We don’t know what it is like to be caught in the midst of a war. This is how it feels. Let us pray for peace.

#MahsaAmini
There are some countries who are keen to stay clear of the issue. Some are paying lip service. Some are paying lip service only when provoked, And then there are others who are actually doing something. The #IranRevolution is real. It’s a large section of people standing up against a suppressive regime.
