News18 India, the Hindi news channel from the Network18 Group has clocked a reach of 10.55 crore at 2+ target group during the week, more than the major GEC channels like Star Plus, ZEE TV, and Sony TV which has reach of 9.67 crore, 8.18 crore, and 7.97 crore respectively.
As part of its efforts to highlight the growing might of Hindi News genre against the general entertainment channels, the channel launched a campaign focused on its dominance over the top GECs in the country.
Data accessed by MediaNews4U revealed that News18 India has garnered 8.7 crore average cumulative views in All 15+ TG in the week of 37-40 (2022) and emerged as the overall topper in terms of reach. During the same period Hindi GEC Colors has registered average cumulative reach of 8 crore views while Star Plus clocked 7.6 crore viewers in the same genera.
‘Reach’ according to Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) metrics refers to the number of people witnessed or sampled the channel for more than one minute in the entire week or a specific period.
Explaining the trend and the benefits ‘reach’ as a metric can bring to the brands, Karan Abhishek Singh, CEO- Hindi Cluster, Network18 said, “Our channels were seen by 10.55 crore of TG cut of 2+ age category. During week 37-40, News18 India has garnered 10.55 crore in 2+ TG while Hindi GEC Star Plus has clocked 9.67 crore viewers. BARC data accessed by MediaNews4u also revealed that AajTak stood at No. 2 with 8.41 crore people sampling the channel while TV9 Bharatvarsha was seen by 8.07 crore people in week 37-40.
It is understood that News18 has taken four weeks average reach of GECs while slicing the data, in order to ensure similarity in comparison of data.
