Web series Delhi Crime Season 1 directed by Richie Mehta starring Shefali Shah, Rasika Dugal, Adil Hussain and Rajesh Tailang released 2019 gave us a painful ringside view of the Nirbhaya rape case. The screenplay discussed the dysfunctionality and loopholes in the political, judicial, and political system.

Delhi Crime Season 2 with Tanuj Chopra as the director has dropped on Netflix. Delhi Police’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (South District) Vartika Chaturvedi and her avengers return, this time investigating a series of robbery-murders in a posh Delhi neighbourhood. The cast welcomes Tillotama Shome. The episodes question if there is an inherent bias in policing against minority communities.
The second season is based on the chapter ‘Moon Gazer’ from former Delhi Police officer Neeraj Kumar’s book Khaki Files. Richie Mehta, who directed the first season, has a creator credit in the second.
NDTV Movies calls it ‘taut and riveting’ adding that the new season ‘never loosens its grip on the audience’.
The Hindu in its review notes: “David Bolen’s cinematography and Ceiri Torjussen’s music bring the dread into living rooms, and the brooding atmospherics add to the top-rate performances.”
The Indian Express says: “Delhi Crime 2 stays solid, smart, and thought-provoking.”
TheScroll.In begs to differ: “The five-episode run feels too rushed to unpack a complex theme – the systemic bias in policing against minority communities – as well as too languorous for what turns out to be a routine mystery.”
Most reviews are unanimous in their praise for the new season of the show, leaving us in little doubt as to what to binge on this weekend.
