Bajaj bills itself today as ‘The World’s Favourite Indian’ with good reason.
The starting point of Bajaj Auto’s journey was in 1945 when M/s Bachraj Trading Corporation Private Limited was born. Three years later, Bajaj Auto commenced sales in India importing two and three-wheelers.
It wasn’t until 1959 when it obtained a licence to manufacture locally.By 1970, it had rolled out its 100,000th vehicle. People of a certain vintage would remember the waiting period for their Chetak scooter (1972) or the KB100 in partnership with Kawasaki (1986), among other vehicles from the stable.
The iconic ‘Hamara Bajaj’ campaign from 1989 still lives on, stoking every Indian’s pride and underlining its own position as a proud Indian brand.
The Indian-ness of the brand is so rooted that when it launched Bajaj ‘V’ with material from the warship INS Vikrant, it was not seen as a gimmick but a genuine tribute to the nation and its armed forces by a patriotic brand.
Today, Bajaj Auto sells two and three-wheelers in over 70 countries across the world, even as it innovates with India’s first quadricycle and commits substantial investments for its EV play.
Bajaj Auto stands tall among brands that have journeyed with independent India.
