Journey
When you decide to start a company the feeling is a mixed bag of emotions. But the main ingredient there is blind faith and a healthy dose of irrationality. I was fortunate to have three other founders with me to balance out the journey at work and a rock solid foundation at home which has made my expedition sustainable over the years.
Inspiration and Inspiring the Team
I have always sought inspiration from those around me. Earlier in my career, the leadership at the companies I worked for gave me insight into making good & bad judgement calls. A lot of the change that I drove in my career was because of the push I got from them.
Some of the women leaders who have inspired me are Indra Nooyi – especially the parts on how she managed her children and her demanding work schedule. I was hugely inspired by Sherly Sandberg’s book – Lean In when it came out, and happened to join a Lean In chapter in Bangalore. Media has always fascinated me and Tina Fey’s journey that she recounts in Bossy Pants and the stories about Sumner Redstone in King of Content have been a constant on my reading list.
My team has real time updates on what I am reading and hearing. My communication channels with them across Slack, E-mail, Whatsapp and Twitter are filled with snippets, pictures of pages of the book I am reading or links to the podcast I listened to. Invariably these stories will find their way into my presentations or conversation during team meetings.
Empowerment of Women
The disparity in women empowerment has never been starker than it is today. The last two years have set us back several years in the progress, and many women who could have made it at work and achieved immense success had to take a step back because of the imbalance of responsibilities at home.
Empowering women is everyone’s responsibility and I believe that we must actively seek out opportunities to lift women up. So, no matter where you are in the corporate world a conscious effort to empower women.
