Chennai: The division bench of Madras High Court passed an interim order on February 1, in favor of music maestro Ilaiyaraaja restraining song recording studio Echo Recordings from exploiting his compositions commercially.
In his petition, Ilaiyaraja alleged that the recording studio has been exploiting many of his compositions despite the expiry of the copyright agreement. The division bench admitted Ilaiyaraaja’s appeal challenging the order passed by a single judge in 2014. The single bench had permitted Echo Recordings to use compositions commercially even after the expiry of copyright agreements.
The bench has adjourned the plea to March 21 for a final hearing.
