As per media reports, starting from April 2022 Malayalam language films released in the movie theatres can only be streamed on OTT platforms after 42 days of the movie release. At present, taking into the prevailing situation caused by Covid -19, the Kerala Film Chamber has given permission to stream movies on OTT platforms one month after the theatre release which will end on March 31, 2022.
And those movies which were streamed on any OTT platforms will not get a theatre release later on. If the movies that are being screened on the movie theatres shifts towards OTT platform streaming, then it will not get any chance for the theatre screening.
Malayalam film industry witnessed a series of controversies concerning the direct streaming of movies without a theatrical release in last few months.
