Femina launched its’ October issue featuring the inspiring story of Indra Nooyi on the 5th of October, 2021. Indra gets candid about her upbringing, her time in the US, her thoughts on leadership and more.
“When it comes to the empowerment of women, Femina has always led the charge. It has carried narratives of women who have brought about extraordinary changes in society. With these stories, we aim at impelling women of the current generation to challenge old ways. Featuring the story of Indra Nooyi in Femina’s current issue is another step in that direction. I hope the issue succeeds in kindling a spark in young women to bring about a shift in society and achieve what they set their hearts to.” said Deepak Lamba, the CEO of Worldwide Media — a Times Group company managing Femina.
Ambika Muttoo, the Editor in Chief of Femina said, “It was quite an experience interviewing Indra — something I’ve always wanted to do, personally. We got to explore her roots, growing up in Chennai. We got to see how her family had been such a strong foundation for her. How and why she’s made the decisions she’s made in her career. She’s such a force to be reckoned with. A globally impactful leader who is brilliant, intuitive, compassionate, extraordinary. Listening to her about what we, as a society, can and must do to empower women is a lesson.”
On being featured in Femina, Indra Nooyi, in conversation, said,” I grew up with Femina. To me, in those days, it was an aspirational magazine. I’m really thrilled to be in it.”
“I think we ought to think holistically about women and we’ve got to give them part of the purse. You’ve got to give them the ability to keep a job, support their families. And we’ve got to make women equal partners in this whole economic equation. I think we can evolve new work styles because of our families and allow women and men to have a family and build a career. I think what we have to do is make sure that families are the source of strength, not a source of stress.” She continues when asked about women in the workforce.
