The Delhi High Court has issued a legal notice to WhatsApp and Telegram for illegally circulating e-papers of The Times of India, and its sister publication Navbharat Times on their platform. The HC also issued notices to a few WhatsApp and Telegram group administrators for alleged copyright violations by circulating e-papers.
The HC asked them to respond to the suit and comply with the order, and the matter has been listed for further hearing on August 18.
The court has also issued notice to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to respond to the suit.
In its plea, BCCL said that epapers of Times of India and Navbharat Times are being circulated on various WhatsApp groups and Telegram without any authority, and this amounts to infringement of its copyright.
