New Delhi: October 2020 has seen a 7% downward slide in optimism for urban Indians over Sept 2020. But India continues to buck the global trend of pessimism, with at least 1 in 2 (55%) urban Indians believing, India is moving in the right direction, unlike the global citizens, where the majority (63%) believe their country is on wrong track. These are the findings of the Ipsos What Worries the World, Ipsos global monthly survey.
Markets most buoyant
India is 4th in the pecking order in optimism. The top three were Saudi Arabia (with at least 88% citizens believing, their country is moving in the right direction), Australia (62%) and Malaysia (60%).
What Worries Indians and global citizens? COVID 19 and unemployment are big worries transcending boundaries. The top 5 issues that worry global citizens are the same issues perturbing urban Indians, though bot in the same order.
“COVID19 and joblessness have been niggling issues for urban Indians for the past several waves and have further pulled down the sentiment. With the pandemic showing no signs of retreating and with still no vaccine available, the woes are far from over. Resurgence in the job market too will be harder to come by, as economies try to bounce back in the backdrop of the pandemic,” said Amit Adarkar, CEO, Ipsos India.
