International: Unruly has elevated UK MD Alex Khan to group MD, international to lead its commercial activity across the Asia Pacific region, while continuing to oversee all UK operations. Khan replaces Phil Townend who recently left after 10 years at Unruly.
Khan will be responsible for driving Unruly’s growth across the region, including rolling out its additional CTV, in-app and in-stream services, following its acquisition by Tremor International at the start of 2020.
Based in London, Khan reports to chief revenue officer Steve Sottile. Meanwhile, Asia MD Vijay Kunduri, Japan MD Wataru Nakano and SVP client partnerships Asia Pacific Gregory Fournier will report directly to Khan. Townend will continue to provide consultancy services to the Unruly team, particularly focused on Australia.
According to Unruly, Khan knows the Asia Pacific market well after spending the last 15 years working with companies such as Smaato, Oath and AOL. He joined the adtech firm in May this year to lead in accelerating growth of Unruly in the UK market. As UK MD, he focused on strengthening the company’s offering as a unified platform for cross-screen video media services. Unruly has offices in Singapore, Tokyo, Sydney and Jakarta.
Khan said: “More formats, more screens, more data, more products – I am really excited to unleash our new offering across Asia Pacific. Through our unique, emotional data-driven approach, Unruly has always brought something different to the market.”
But now, following the integration with Tremor and the additional capabilities that has brought, he explained that Unruly has been transformed from an outstream video specialist into one of the largest, independent ad platforms in the world, with access to enhanced, scalable technology.
Sottile said Asia Pacific is a key territory for Unruly as it continues to push out its all-screens proposition around the world, so getting the right leadership in place and quickly is essential. “Khan has only been here a short time but has really hit the ground running. His extensive experience and industry knowledge have been key in driving the company’s new value proposition forward,” he added.
Meanwhile, Tremor International CEO Ofer Druker said Townend has been an incredible member of the Unruly leadership team. “His drive and sheer knowledge of the industry has been key to the company’s growth, and I am delighted that he will continue to play a part in the Unruly story,” he added.
