Mumbai: Sunil Rayan, the former MD of Google Cloud has joined Disney+Hotstar as its President. He left Google in April 2020 ending his seven years of stint with the Company.
Rayan also served as MD Mobile App Ads Business for 5yrs in California. He comes with deep expertise in gaming and mobile-focused businesses with over 20 years of experience in business building, strategy, sales, business development, marketing, commercial and product operations.
He will be working closely with Uday Shankar, President of Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific and Chairman of Star and Disney India, to drive Disney+ Hotstar in growth path. It may be noted that Uday Shankar retained the affairs of Digital Business of Star India under his direct supervision while assigning all other responsibilities to K Madhavan, the new Country Manager of Disney and Star India who replaced Sanjay Gupta in December 2019.
Uday Shankar, President, The Walt Disney Company APAC “Five years ago, we set out to disrupt the way India consumed content and that mission has turned out to be totally revolutionary. Sunil is an exciting talent with global accomplishments and I am very excited to have him lead the talented Disney+ Hotstar team. At Disney+ Hotstar India, we are on a mission to create the country’s largest and most advanced platform for curated content, and Sunil is just the right person to drive that ambition.”
After the exit of Ajit Mohan, Disney+Hotstar didn’t have a powerful leader to drive the platform in growth path as it is being operated on autopilot mode. With Sunil Rayan joining the platform, Disney+Hotstar is expected to get aggressive with streaming platforms finding favorable atmosphere across the globe due to Covid-19 Lockdown.
