For me, this WFH experience has been quite multi-faceted. Self-exploration, revelations, pursuing hobbies, finding new interests, finding old friends, reminiscing memories, returning to social media, yes, that too, and much more. It is a vivid kaleidoscope.
I could write reams. Here’s a sneak peek, though.
At the end of a busy day or at the beginning of one, I indulge in making a dish and an occasional cuppa in the evening. It’s been my hobby to experiment with cuisines and the immense variety it throws at me.
I liken it to the possibilities life has to offer and how one can create a magic potion to keep going.
Binge-watching on Netflix is my new-found love (never got time before). I usually slide into slumber while watching these movies and web series. The sheer plethora of genres of the content has only broadened my imagination and prods me to think of the complex emotions, relationships, problems, optimism, reality and so many other things that exist out there in the real world and the world one could imagine of.
One such movie that sent shivers down my spine is Contagion, an exact replica of Covid-19, made way back in 2011.
Did I say going back to social media? I have been a rather ‘a-social media’ person for long. While working from home, it has been a good way to stay entertained with light-hearted conversation, parodies, Trump memes, the creativity of people trying to be famous, and so much more. Not to mention getting in touch with old friends who have gone to distant places in the world, classmates from college, relatives who you seldom spoke with. It is heartening to know that they all have you in their thoughts in trying times like this and they ask you about your safety. Going back to social media has taken me back in time and gotten me closer to the dearest people in my life.
There are pockets of time during the day when I sit by the window when there are no office calls or chores to take care of. And there pops a photo on the phone reminding me of a vacation I had taken; the years gone by since I made friends with someone on FB; or the first picture I clicked of my dog when I got him home as a pup. I usually drift into the surreal world of the photo library wading through the sea of memories – some sweet, some not so. I enjoy these quiet, private moments to self-explore, self-examine, and get away from the madness around me. Finally, to quickly open Photoshop and capture the collage of memories into a picture to stay with me forever.
To conclude, how could I forget my OCD (which is also my stress buster) to keep the house squeaky clean and arrange things around the house. I guess that reflects my style of orderly working and putting some method to the madness.
Signing off by praying for everyone’s safety.
