The 5th edition of the joint report on TV and Smartphone consumption behavior by BARC and Nielsen is a powerhouse of insights and facts.
According to the report, in week 15, Hindi GECs without Doordarshan in Hindi Speaking Markets have shown growth across platforms in Non-Prime-time. On the free platform growth of 85% has been seen in week 15 over the pre-covid period. Pay Platform has grown by 42% in the same time frame. All this growth is without the contribution of Doordarshan to the party.
With Doordarshan, the growth in week 15 over 14 across Hindi GECs in Primetime slots is 15% whereas 13% in Non-prime-time.
Without Doordarshan, Non-prime-time and prime-time saw a growth of 5%. Hence proves that during Covid-19 period, Doordarshan is a major driver for growth for the overall GEC category.
