Mumbai : Airtel is gearing up to face the competition from Reliance’s JioFiber as the later’s service is set to be commercially rolled out on 5th September. According to reports, Airtel will offer digital entertainment and fast broadband services together via a smart set-top-box, similar to JioFiber’s set-top-box.
Similar to the transformation of Airtel TV to Airtel eXtreme with class OTT features and content, Airtel will launch its customised Android-based set-top box in September and the device will allow access to premium OTT content, streaming applications, HD TV channels, virtual reality applications, and interactive gaming services under its converged digital entertainment-cum-broadband service, the report further added.
The telecom major might also bundle a HD LED television along with the set-top-box for top-end tariff packs, the report said. This stands to counter JioFiber’s Welcome Offer which offers a 4K set-top-box, along with a 4K or HD LED TV or a PC for free to home broadband customers who opt for annual data plans.
Airtel will also bring integrated tariff packs for the smart set-top box that will target the mid-to-top end postpaid mobile users, home broadband and DTH digital TV consumers, the report added. These user groups will be treated as unified home users of Airtel’s converged telecom services.
Moreover, Airtel’s V-Fiber Broadband is also offering additional data up to 1000 GB on three of its plans. The additional data will be valid for a period of six months, after which it will stand forfeited
